  XXXXXXX WRONG! XXXXXXXX HELLO!!! Now that's as basic as it gets. If they put up a couple of pages .. hmm ... wouldn't they have to have links to get back and forth between them. Yes even if they are just showing you the beginnings of your site, HA! yes they will be using links to click around back and forth. Pssst! those critical navigation links are a given. Don't let them try to make it seem like these are
  a major important feature that their super guru had to build. Here's an idea, take a tech friend along or to show and see what they think of these super deals your finding, its even worth a few bucks to not be really taken for down the road.
  

• Supreme Web Site: $750 Special.
  If you run accross something like this >> Supreme Web Site: $750 Special Template construct and includes javascript navigation menus or custom dynamic rollovers. XXXXXXXXX WRONG! XXXXXXXX $750 Special? Is that like flavor of the month?
  THIS IS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING AND IT SHOULD BE FOR $75 to $200 Maximum, even in New York! PERIOD.!!!!!!!! Its what we call in the biz, a base because it comes with the software, that's right it comes already done in Dreamweaver, Frontpage and a dozen other web page designing software out there. All they doing is clicking around to change the shape or color or anything they can find to click on.

• Also, if they mention other add-ins or features or options or all deals come with or included etc.
  Some out there offer pure tripe/bs lines. When someone says GUARANTEE for Search Engines quickly go somewhere else.
  

• Search Engine targeting with full meta tags and optimized keywords.
  SOUNDS GOOD, please read on.
  That's all well a good, but--that is useless without text sets on the page to make it work. You can have a pretty, pretty, eye candy looking page with lovely pictures and beautiful curvy font styles. Or, you can have a product picture or site show up in the search engines.
  
  
  Yeah I know, breaking the flow, but hey it just occured to me and its kind of important so here it is.
  
• RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH and forget about your old school markup ESPECIALLY THAT ANCIENT 300% KEYSTONE JUNK FROM THE OLD DAYS. Might be fine before the internet, HEY TURN AROUND ... turn around now because that's the back of the cave.
  A digressing note: If you make socks or hats and you try to sell them for $42.99 to $94.99 and practically everyone else is selling the same thing for $5.99 and Free Shipping on Orders over $20 bucks.. well, you do the math. Your not going to sell much even after I get you in the engines.

• Back to tripe features: Like including this, including that.
  On one graphics site it said "including editing, manipulation and scanning of your pictures" HA! Thats right, that's how you get them up there and that's how one fades and layers two of your pictures together for a background image. Basically--it wouldn't be a special thing or include at all. Same with the CD.
  A CD of your site is a given with most companies, pssst, its called a backup, HELLO!

• Javascript
  Javascript this javascript that addons or whatever spin they happen to put on their super duper javascript toys they are pushing. HELLO!!!!! Psst .. it comes with the software. That's right, only a few little clicks and its automatically added to your niffty photo gallery. If not then they don't have the software and that means they are not very professional. And of course they will mention anything and everything but not that they don't have that latest CS5 etc. software. What they will do is charge you a boat load after they have found some pieces of script on the net and put it on your page to make that niffty little variable transparent to opaque flash menu work.
  
  
  In closing I just have to say... be careful and talk to several people and several friends and several techs to get a true idea of what you want and what it really should cost. Oh and when your doing that, its not the cheapest. Please remember the phrase, you get what you pay for.
